How to set the right price?

It is not always easy to price one's assignments. Pricing consists of several factors that often depend on and influence each other. This page is an attempt by us to facilitate and come up with concrete tips for how you, as a self-employed person, can think about pricing when invoicing. See below to know more about the following.

– What is the right price?

– Annual price adjustment

– Things to think about and tips when negotiating

What is the right price?

You should always have a reasonable salary

The price of your product or service makes up your salary in the long run, and as a self-employed person, you should always work under good working conditions. In Frilans Finans' work for economic and social sustainability

What is the right price for me?

To get an idea of how much you should invoice as an umbrella employed, it can be beneficial to get an insight into what others invoice. We, therefore, encourage you to consult with others in your industry about what they ask of their customers. If you don't know anyone who works in your industry, but still want to get an overview, you can look at salary statistics.

Annual price adjustment

Why should I adjust the price annually?

Inflation means that the price of goods and services rises. This means that if you do not adjust the price of your product or service, it will mean that your income in the future is worth less even if you sell the same amount of product/services as before. In other words, an increase in the general price level will mean that you lose purchasing power.

We recommend always informing about price increases in conversation and entering into a contract with the client.

Things to think about

Think through your costs

Take into account your fixed and variable costs (rental of premises, equipment, mobile phone subscription, PC, etc.) when deciding the price of your assignments.

As an umbrella-employed worker, you can make installments via Frilans Finans for some overhead costs – read more about how it works here.

Hourly price or fixed price?

A fixed price is usually advantageous for the customer, who gets better control over his costs. As a freelancer or consultant, it is crucial that you are clear about what is included in the price.

There are cases where an hourly price can be both simpler and more profitable, for example at the start of a collaboration.

The length of the assignment

Experience matters

If you have a shorter assignment, it is reasonable to charge a higher price than an assignment that lasts longer. If you have a longer assignment, it may be a good idea to operative with a longer notice period in the assignment agreement for a more favorable price.

More experience and knowledge in a certain area can justify a higher price. Dare to charge for your performance of assignments based on your competence.

Have the right input values - ask for a clear brief

Make sure you have a clear overview of the tasks and the time required before negotiating the price. This makes it easier if the assignment grows and there is a need to revise the price.

The price depends on the custumer and demand

In periodes when demand is higher, it is possible to set a higher price. In the same way, you will be able to set a higher price if the client wants a faster delivery.

Assignment agreement and registration of your assignment

We recommend that you create an assignment with the client to minimize misunderstandings about agreement is created between Frilans Finans (your employer) and the client.
